Furniture Care Guide

Last Updated: October 8, 2026

At Nestpack, we want your furniture to remain comfortable, attractive, and functional for years to come. Proper care and regular maintenance can help protect your sofas, chairs, and other furniture from everyday wear.

General Furniture Care

  • Follow the care instructions provided with your specific furniture product.

  • Dust and clean furniture regularly to prevent dirt and debris from building up.

  • Avoid placing furniture in areas with excessive moisture or extreme temperature changes.

  • Keep furniture away from direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight whenever possible.

  • Do not place extremely hot, wet, or heavy objects directly on furniture surfaces.

  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, bleach, abrasive cleaners, or strong solvents unless specifically recommended for the material.

  • Lift furniture when moving it instead of dragging it across floors.

Sofa and Upholstered Furniture Care

Regular vacuuming can help remove dust, crumbs, pet hair, and other debris from upholstered sofas and chairs.

Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft upholstery attachment and gently clean the seating surfaces, cushions, seams, and other accessible areas.

For removable cushions, follow the product-specific care instructions before removing or washing any covers. Do not machine wash or dry-clean removable covers unless the product instructions specifically allow it.

Avoid sitting on armrests, backrests, or other areas that are not designed to support body weight, as this may cause unnecessary wear or damage.

Fabric and Chenille Upholstery

For fabric, chenille, and similar upholstery:

  • Vacuum gently on a regular basis.

  • Blot spills as soon as possible using a clean, dry, absorbent cloth.

  • Avoid rubbing or scrubbing spills, as this may push the liquid deeper into the fabric.

  • For light cleaning, use a small amount of mild soap diluted with water only when appropriate for the fabric.

  • Test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden area first.

  • Allow the upholstery to dry completely before using the furniture again.

Different fabrics may require different cleaning methods. Always check the product-specific care instructions before applying any cleaning solution.

Boucle and Textured Upholstery

Boucle and other textured fabrics can collect dust and debris between their fibers. Gently vacuum the surface using a suitable upholstery attachment.

Avoid aggressive brushing, pulling loose fibers, or using rough cleaning tools. For spills, gently blot the affected area with a clean cloth and allow it to air dry.

Do not use strong chemicals or excessive water on textured upholstery unless specifically recommended for the material.

Leather and Faux Leather

For leather or faux leather furniture:

  • Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth.

  • Clean small spills promptly.

  • Use a cleaner specifically designed for the applicable leather or faux leather material when necessary.

  • Avoid alcohol-based cleaners, bleach, abrasive products, and harsh solvents.

  • Keep the furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Do not allow moisture to remain on the surface for extended periods.

Always test a cleaning product on an inconspicuous area before treating the entire surface.

Wood and Wood-Look Surfaces

For wooden or wood-look furniture:

  • Remove dust with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.

  • Wipe up spills promptly.

  • Avoid excessive moisture.

  • Use coasters, mats, or protective pads under drinks, decorative items, and other objects that could scratch or stain the surface.

  • Avoid placing furniture directly next to heaters or other strong heat sources.

  • Do not use abrasive sponges or harsh cleaning chemicals.

Natural wood and wood-based materials may have variations in color, grain, and texture. These characteristics are normal and can contribute to the appearance of the furniture.

Metal Components

For furniture with metal legs, frames, or decorative components:

  • Wipe dust away with a soft cloth.

  • Clean with a slightly damp cloth when necessary.

  • Dry the surface after cleaning.

  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and rough scrubbing materials.

  • Do not allow water or moisture to remain around joints, fasteners, or metal connections.

Furniture Frames and Legs

Periodically check the legs, frames, bolts, screws, and other hardware for looseness.

If a component becomes loose, carefully tighten it according to the product instructions. Do not overtighten screws or hardware, as this may damage the furniture.

Do not use furniture if its frame, legs, or structural components appear damaged or unstable.

Cushion Maintenance

Regularly reposition and gently fluff removable cushions when appropriate. This can help distribute normal wear more evenly.

Avoid repeatedly placing concentrated weight on one small area of a cushion.

Some cushions may naturally soften or change shape with regular use. This is a normal characteristic of upholstered furniture and does not necessarily indicate a product defect.

Spill and Stain Care

When a spill occurs:

  1. Remove excess liquid or material as quickly as possible.

  2. Gently blot the affected area with a clean, absorbent cloth.

  3. Avoid rubbing the stain aggressively.

  4. Use only a cleaning method suitable for the furniture material.

  5. Allow the area to dry completely.

For large, persistent, or difficult-to-remove stains, consider contacting a professional furniture or upholstery cleaning service.

Pets and Furniture

If you have pets, regular vacuuming can help remove hair and debris from furniture.

Keep pet claws trimmed to reduce the risk of scratching or snagging upholstery. Avoid allowing pets to chew on furniture legs, frames, cushions, or other components.

Pet-related damage may not be covered by the product warranty or return policy.

Moving and Handling Furniture

Furniture should be lifted and carried carefully when being moved. Do not drag sofas, chairs, beds, or other heavy furniture across the floor.

If a furniture item is large or heavy, use appropriate assistance when moving it. Follow the assembly and handling instructions provided with the product.

Protecting Your Furniture

To help extend the life of your furniture:

  • Keep it in a clean, dry indoor environment.

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

  • Keep liquids away from upholstery and wooden surfaces.

  • Use protective pads under objects that may scratch surfaces.

  • Avoid exceeding the recommended weight capacity.

  • Perform regular cleaning and maintenance.

  • Follow all product-specific instructions.

Product-Specific Care Instructions

Furniture materials, construction, and finishes can vary between products. If a product includes specific cleaning, assembly, weight, or maintenance instructions, those instructions should take priority over this general guide.
